From Graphic Design Degree To Business Sales Career At Aussie Fintech Company
How Nicola Witt found her dream career after graduation.
“I’m absolutely love, love, loving my life and experience right now at Airwallex”
The Challenge
After graduating high school in 2019, Nicola moved to Melbourne to pursue a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Digital Technologies.
Towards the end of her degree, Nicola felt unsure if design was for her as she wanted a more people facing role, nor was the design job market very forgiving.
She briefly forayed into a coding based degree but ran into the same issues with design - so, after graduating it was back to square one.
Nicola began applying for more customer facing roles on Seek & Indeed such as customer service and sales and continued her job search.
The Solution
Nicola came across business sales after applying for an Earlywork role.
After attending an Earlywork Business Sales Group Interview, Nicola knew that business sales was for her.
Her biggest reason?
She felt that by selling products other businesses needed, there would be more job security than in her previous professions as the need for sales would always exist in a company.
Here’s more context.
In Australia, entry level business sales roles earn an average of $95k per year*.
Within 4-5 years of starting in business sales, you could be selling to 1000+ employee companies and have a total package north of $250k+ per year.
But why are packages in business sales so high?
It all comes down to what you’re selling - business-to-business software tools (ie: UberEats).
Sales is the second most in-demand role for most companies with clients that are businesses (behind product specialists) as reps are responsible for finding new business customers to adopt their tools.
Yet, there’s a distinct skill shortage as many job seekers think they require a business background or previous sales experience to get started - which simply isn’t true.
The Results
After attending a Business Sales Group Interview, Nicola was shortlisted for her engagement with the session activities.
Nicola them met Airwallex, an Aussie fintech company and started his business sales career.
